Eye emergencies require prompt medical attention since a delay in care can result in permanent eye health issues and/or vision loss.

Our doctors at Bensenville Eye Care treat a variety of eye emergencies including, but not limited to:

• acute red eye
  
• sudden eye pain
  
• sudden vision loss
  
• new onset of double vision
  
• new onset of floaters or flashing lights
  
• foreign objects in the eye
  
• chemical burns
  
• trauma to the eye

If you are experiencing an eye emergency, please contact our office right away so we can assist you. If you call after hours, you will be directed to our on-call doctor.

How To Reduce Your Eye Injury Risk

Eye injuries can happen anywhere and anytime. However, to reduce your risk of an eye injury, we recommend the following:

• Wear protective eyewear when playing sports, using power tools or engaging in high-risk activities.
  
• Follow directions carefully when working with chemicals or cleaning supplies.
  
• Keep scissors, knives and other sharp instruments away from young children.
  
• Stay a safe distance from amateur fireworks.

​A Special Note for Contact Lens Wearers

Wearing contact lenses increases the risk of eye infections. These risks are greatly reduced by wearing and handling contact lenses properly. The doctors at Bensenville Eye Care recommend the following:

• Wash hands before touching contact lenses or your eye.
  
• Use new contact lens solution every day (dump old solution and let case air dry before reuse).
  
• Change contact lens case at least every 3 months.
  
• Replace contact lenses as directed by your doctor.

Following these basic guidelines can greatly reduce your risk of eye infections. If you ever experience any redness, pain, and/or light sensitivity, remove your contact lenses and call our office immediately so we can assist you.
